Beginning at childhood, we are filled with stories of perfect love that is destined to find us. The perfect connection between two people overcoming barriers and hardships to eventually live "happily ever after" is a classic literature archetype. A love story offers humans a somewhat simplified version of one of the most complicated emotions known to man. Nothing strikes joy or sadness in the heart of an individual like a true life love story.

Love can prove to be the greatest joy and the worst pain that one can experience, and at times these feelings happen simultaneously. As reflective in true life, love stories usually encompass the positive and negative experiences of love. Love stories generally follow a progression of ups and downs which if all goes well works out in the end. The key phrase in building a love story is the phrase "happily ever after". The manner in which a love story is meant to impact the reader depends on whether or not the characters do live happily ever after.

Likely, every person has experienced their own love story, each with different results. Some may have been lucky enough to receive a happy ending to their love story, while others have written a sad love story or tragedy as they are known.

A love story generally removes personal joy or hurt from the situation, letting the reader relate to the emotions, but not have to endure them. The popularity of love stories inevitably hinges upon the connection that readers can make with the characters.

The Science of a Love Story

Philosophies on love are as extensive and unique as people are. Some believe that one can be fulfilled by living their own true love story, while others believe that the sensation is an illusion. However, most psychologists believe that the fire and passion that the relationship is built upon changes to a form of love where friendship and trust remains, but romantic feelings disappear.

A great deal of psychological research indicates that romantic love in its purest sense last about a year, and then by definition turns to compassionate love. This is not by any means universal, as some couples are able to extend the period of love far longer than a year, and some can't even last that long.

The progression of romantic loves that comprise love stories also often follow the same progression. Attraction is generally derived from common interests that can at times appear mysterious and irrational. The way in what creates an attraction has numerous scientific theories behind it. Whether the cause is family drama, sexual desire, liking, or rivalry is to be determined. This leads to the stage of romantic love.

Dating or courtship usually follows mutual attraction, which is where love stories generally take a turn for the worst. Psychologists argue that once the challenge of getting to the point of dating has faded, that the monotony of monogamy can be painful. Some philosophers believe that the pursuit of love is an attempt to indirectly seek god through the connection to another individual, where others see it as a relationship distinct from God and a spiritual obstacle.

Regardless of views on love or how it is derived, short love stories, sad love stories, true love stories, erotic love stories, and all variations are a timeless object of all cultures. Whether your love story came true or not, one cannot deny the appeal of hearing the trials of love according to others.
