Cottage Poltergeist

BY A. ANDERSON

I lived in a haunted house for two years. In 2006 I found an adorable cottage-style house in Minneapolis, Minnesota. It was built in 1924, had all wood floors, three bedrooms, two bathrooms, detached garage, a lot of storage space, and all for a very good price.

The very first day I moved in, I saw a floating female face in my closet, which was actually more like a tunnel going into the wall. My bedroom was definitely the most active room in the house. My door would open and slam shut all the time. I tried putting all of my weight against the closed door to see if it would open, but you had to turn the knob all of the way to make it open.

I believe this was an active haunting because it seemed that the ghost was listening to us. One evening, I was sitting on the back deck having drinks with my two roommates. This was right outside one of their bedroom windows. I was exchanging stories of odd happenings that I had experienced in the house. One roommate (the one whose room we were sitting next too) laughed and told us we were crazy. She decided to go in and find a sweater. When she walked into her room, she discovered that her rug had spun 180 degrees, was all wrinkled and the door slammed shut behind her! I guess the ghost was listening!

There were days that I would walk out of the kitchen for just a moment, and when I returned all of the cupboards would be open and the faucet would be running! Even if I was home alone! We also witnessed a white, skirted figure running quickly from room to room. Definitely female. I believe she was the original owner of the home.

The only time I was fearful of her was when she threw a giant box fan across the room. It had been resting on a stool, but it didn't just fall. It flew across the room and hit the opposite wall. It did not just tip over! We experienced several other paranormal events in the house, including footsteps, shadow figures, odd photographs, and levitating objects, but we ended up being fond of the ghost. If there was not activity after a few days, we would wonder where she went. I think she was watching over her house. I wonder if the current residents of the house are scared of her or as fascinated as we were.
