The Dog

This story is for people who believe that dreams can manifest in reality.

At the end of a long day, I slipped into bed and drifted off to sleep. I hardly ever remember my dreams, but this one I remember vividly. I was on vacation with my family and for some reason I had a black Labrador that I loved very much. The main focus of the dream was tossing the frisbee. A recurring theme was that he would steal frisbees that were lying around a parking lot near other people's cars (no idea why).

Every time he would bring the frisbee back to me, I would have to take it back to the owner and apologize for my dog. The ritual was that we would go from the parking lot to the park for more wide open and peaceful environment. I would hop in my car and start driving and the dog would run and grab the frisbee and jump into the passenger seat while the car was moving; it was kind of cool.

Well it came time for whatever reason for me and the dog to part. I stood sobbing on my doorstep; I seemed to be conversing with the animal and knew it had to be this way.

I told the dog "see ya" and woke up.

A few days later as I was walking to the park to sit quietly and read, was distracted by a man and a dog playing catch with a frisbee. To my shock and amazement the dog was exactly as I had pictured it in my dreams; black Labrador. Astonished, I walked up to the pair and the dog didn't bark at all, it simply ran up to me and began wagging its tail.

I asked the man about his dog and could not believe what I'd heard. Apparently he had found the Labrador in the parking lot to his apartment complex with a frisbee in its mouth. He had put up posters advertising a lost dog and nobody had claimed him, so he simply kept the dog, which he named Cerberus after the three headed dog who guards the gates of Hades in Greek mythology.

Strange.
